Kyle Bartlett
Kyle Bartlett was born in 1971 in Los Angeles. She began as a flutist, later also a drummer in bands and then a composer. She earned her Diploma of Flute Performance from the Longy School in 1995, and the PhD in Composition from the University of Pennsylvania in 1999, where her primary teacher was George Crumb. Other teachers include Herman Weiss, Beat Furrer and most importantly James Dillon. Her works have been performed across the US, including at Weill Hall and the MATA festival in New York, and the Boston Conservatory New Music Week, as well as in Europe, notably at the Darmstadt Ferienkurse and in numerous concerts by the Belgian ensemble Champ d’Action. Bartlett works in diverse media, from chamber work, to orchestra, to sound installation and material sculpture. A Pennsylvania Council on the Arts grantee, she lives in Philadelphia, where she serves on the faculty of Settlement Music School.
