“Message in a Bottle”, showcases repertoire from young American composers. On the program will be a world premiere by c)i composer-member Kyle Bartlett, a work written specifically for c)i by Los Angeles composer Peter Knell, and two pieces selected directly from our ongoing call for scores – which has already resulted in the performance of over a dozen works. The remaining two pieces on the program will be determined by the results of a nationally-advertised composition competition currently in development, which will be open to American applicants and adjudicated by a panel of prominent composers. This concert is made possible with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency.
Programme:
“A gentleman brought music to his lady's window, who hated him,...and when he persisted, she threw stones at him. Whereupon a friend of his that was within his company, said to him; "What greater honour can you have to your music, than that stones come about you, as they did to Orpheus."”
--Francis Bacon
